What is somatic therapy?

Our sense of the world, of our reality, is largely based upon our contact with our sensory grounding, and without clear sensation and interoception (the sense of an internal state of our body) we can lose touch with reality, our sense of self, our location in relation to our environment, and our connection to our felt sense and our needs.

When we are more attuned to our body, we tend to have improved well-being and mental health, as we receive much more direct and immediate information about our current state and relationship to our environment - our feelings, needs, and desires. We can listen to our bodies about what is needed, what boundaries are required, and what is out of balance.

By focusing on bodily sensations—what the body feels, perceives, and expresses— we can begin to turn towards ourselves with curiosity and compassion, as we discover, shape and perpetuate our experience.

Our well-being improves because we are grounded within our selfhood - we can be present, real, energised, substantial, awake, alive and open to learning about ourselves and others.
